Challenge On Purpose has been born out of a love that both Ben and Amy share for taking on challenges that push human limits both physically and mentally all in the name of charities that are close to their hearts. When the duo decided to take on a Spartan Obstacle Course Race back in September 2015, they asked their friends and family if they would like to join them and before you know it, they had a team of 17 of their loved ones, matching t-shirts and active campaigns raising money for Vision Australia. They were on to something here!
Although there are plenty of challenges out there to take on in the name of charity, Ben and Amy felt there wasn't anything that allowed a bunch of people to come together, take on a challenge that seems impossible and support a charity of their choice, not the choice of the challenge curator. So here it is, Challenge On Purpose, the brand spankin' new foundation bringing people together to push themselves for something bigger than themselves.
To test the waters, Ben and Amy are travelling to Papua New Guinea to trek the Kokoda Track before they begin rounding up their Challenge On Purpose Tribe. Learn more about Ben and Amy below but in the meantime, join our tribe by getting social with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We're excited and hope you are too!
At age 16, Ben lost his eyesight overnight to a rare genetic syndrome, Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. This sudden, traumatic event turned his world upside down. It redefined everything he knew and crushed all his childhood dreams in an instant. Yet it was also the beginning of new form of visions, ‘True Vision’ and ‘Limitless Vision’.
Ben faces an array of challenges each and every day. He does this with a positive attitude as he refuses to allow his condition to define him. His transformed perception has saw him vow to never let his situation limit his life. Ben truly has taken control of his destiny by embracing resilience and the ability to live without limits and now shares his learnings with school, community and corporate groups as a motivational speaker and coach.
Ben has a very unique lifestyle which includes motorbike riding, water skiing and traveling extensively by himself despite only having 2% vision. Ben is also the only legally blind person in the world to have competed, untethered, in the internationally recognised Spartan Obstacle Course Race and in February 2017 the 22 year old became the first blind person to compete in the most famous water ski event in the world, the Southern 80. With many more challenges in his sights, Challenge On Purpose will be the foundation in which Ben gives back by doing the 'impossible' if honour of something bigger than he is. Support Ben's journey and follow along for the ride, it will be incredible!
Amy is the co-founder of event management and coaching company, Events By Example, as well as Challenge On Purpose. Passionate about growing businesses with events that set an example, Amy also has a deep love for charity events and fundraising for causes that are close to her heart.
This is not the first challenge Amy has taken on in the name of charity. She has previously shaved off her hair in honour of all women who have been and will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer, competed in a Spartan Obstacle Course Race for Vision Australia plus ran a half marathon and swam an ocean swim with Can Too for Cure Cancer Australia and The Cancer Council. On top of this, Amy has held numerous charity events for individuals and organisations who are in need of support and donors, her proudest is a Trivia Night at the age of 18 for her cousin Connor who lives with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy where $5000 was raised to help the family travel to Disneyland for Connor to have the trip of a lifetime!
